Loving our neighbors, whether they live in a house or not.

" 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.' " (Leviticus 19:18)

This is not the only time that loving your neighbor is mentioned in the Bible. It is mentioned a few times in the Old Testament and quite a few in the New Testament. These "neighbors" may not necessarily be our suburban neighbors, but they would include everyone and anyone. The homeless are under the anyone and everyone umbrella, and we must love them as well. This is reason enough for Christians to care about these people who need love just as much as anyone else does.

A Great Way to Get Involved

Original Story

This is such a difficult situation, and initially I want to join the protesters and point the finger. But from what I conclude this is exactly what Christ would have done. I think it's outrageous that people are threatening to "burn down the house". I tossed this story around in my head, I feel for the families that constantly live in fear because of this man and his past. At the same time, my heart breaks for the family that has offered their home to him out of love and now they are getting spat on for it. According to Good Morning America, Guay goes to the basement during the protests and sits to pray. This action is so reminiscent of when Christ would escape to a quiet place and come to his Father in prayer. I can only hope and pray for peace in the lives of those who are involved in this situation.

Lower Lights Ministries

Lower Lights is a great outreach in Franklinton, which is one of the most poverty stricken areas of Columbus. They have many different programs such as project AIM, which aims to provide self-sufficiency. They also have a comprehensive care pantry that provides food, clothing and personal care items to the community. Although they are not directly geared towards reaching out to the homeless, they are providing the community with the means to remain off the streets. This is a great way to get involved and they are always grateful to receive any help!
